TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has begun an investigation into grants and social assistance funds (Bansos) in Banten province following the Supreme Audit Agency’s (BPK) discovery the funds are suspected to have caused the state to suffer up to Rp1.1 trillion in losses.
The BPK discovered discrepancies in the disbursement of funds under Banten’s social aid programs in 2010 to 2011 where 197 institutes were listed as receivers. However, when the BPK requested confirmation from these institutes, they claimed they never received the funds.
The KPK will follow up the audit agency’s discovery of irregularities and stated that the investigation into this matter will be easier as the BPK has given them sufficient data to kick off a comprehensive investigation.
Banten Governor Ratu Atut Chosiyah’s younger brother was recently apprehended by the KPK along with the now suspended Constitutional Court chief justice Akil Mochtar for taking kickbacks. Since then, the wealth of the governor’s family, and the governor herself, has been under scrutiny by government institutes and the KPK.
