TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia has welcomed the news that North Korea released six South Koreans last week, describing it as a positive move towards the Indonesian government’s hopes of relaxing tensions between the two Korean countries.

Foreign Minister Marty M. Natalegawa just returned from a meeting in Pyongyang, North Korea, last October 21 to 23. During his visit, Marty was specifically deployed by Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to hand over a personal letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

In his letter, Yudhoyono asserted the importance of a breakthrough to improve communications between North and South Korea.

The South’s Unification Ministry reported that six of its people were sent back home on Friday at around 16.50 local time. These six South Koreans were captured for illegally entering North Korean territory.
