TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Angkasa Pura (Persero) El Tari Airport Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara detained four immigrants from Myanmar for possessing Indonesian Identity Card. Three of them possess Kupang ID and the other has Medan ID.
"Angkasa Pura officers seized them when they were checking in at El Tari Airport," PT Angkasa Pura I staff I Made Sudiana said in Kupang, Tuesday, October 22, 2013.
The four immigrants, according to him, were detained last September. The check-in officers asked them to show their ID to match their identity printed on the ticket. "The officers were surprised because they showed Indonesian ID cards," he said.
The officers then reported the immigrants to airport security officers who immediately detained them and turned them over to Kupang Immigration. The ID cards were confirmed to come from Kupang and Medan's Population Department. "We are curious on how the illegal Myanmar immigrants can get their hands on Indonesian ID card," he explained.
Meanwhile, The Governor of East Nusa Tenggara Frans Lebu Raya suspected immigrant smuggling network has reached inside the government. "It seems that this network has infiltrated the population department," he said.
The Governor has asked the authority to investigate the alleged involvement of population department officers in human smuggling network.
