TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) is planning to give incentives to warteg (small diners). According to him, a small business like that should not be taxed because it would burden their business. "They should get a coaching, guidance, and incentives from the Department of SMEs and Trade," said Jokowi at the City Hall yesterday.

Jokowi's statement was "insinuating" the Regional Regulation No. 11 of 2011 on restaurant tax, which explains the taxation of any businesses that have business income of Rp500,000 a day. "They haven't even got their income yet, but already being taxed, how are they supposed to develop their businesses?" he said.

Jokowi assessed that there are still many other business sectors that are much more developed and deserve to be taxed. That is why the Jakarta Administration is planning to revise some of the regulations, such as the turnover limit and restaurant categories, and will discuss it with the Jakarta Regional House of Representatives.
