TEMPO.CO, Bern - Fifteen tons of five-centimer gold coins were dumped on the streets in front of the parliament building in Switzerland capital, Bern. The freely splashed cash was a form of protest initiated by activists from 'Generation Basic Income Initiative'.
As quoted from Daily Mail yesterday, the initiative aims to have minimum monthly disposable household income of CHF2, 500 given by the government to every citizen living in Switzerland. Enno Schmidt, the founder of Generation Basic Income Initiative, said his organization has presented 130,000 signatures to Parliament urging them to pass a law which guarantees the basic income demanded. The Swiss parliament must address or hold referendum over any issue which has gathered more than 100,000 signatures.
Switzerland has been regarded as the richest country for years. According to The Richest, Switzerland does not have a minimum wage written into law. However, as Europe continues to struggle with financial turbulence and unemployment, activists in the country have decided to take a stand and demand a basic income to each citizen on a monthly basis.
