TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama praised the state ideology Pancasila as an unshakeable ideology. He said radical movements had made repeated attempts to replace it, but none prevailed.

“Anybody who wants to change Pancasila will be destroyed and humiliated. That’s for sure,” Ahok said after presiding over a ceremony to commemorate the Pancasila Sanctity Day at the National Monument in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, October 1, 2013.

The deputy governor said Pancasila’s becoming the nation’s ideology for 68 years is proof of its sanctity. Meaning, he added, Pancasila was suitable for countries with diverse cultures, races, and religions.

Ahok reminded the audience at this year’s ceremony that many heroes had sacrificed their lives for Pancasila and their struggles must not end in vain. “Pancasila is really sacred, so we have to remind the young generation that Pancasila is unshakeable,” he emphasized.
