TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The role of Indonesian police women cannot be overlooked since there are several police jobs police women handle better. Nevertheless, the number of Indonesian policewomen remains quite low.

Until the end of 2012, the country only had around 13,200 police women out of the total of 398,000 officers. "With that figure, we are only 3.6 percent of the total. I think it’s still very low," said Brigadier General Police Basaria Panjaitan at the Industrial Chemical Technology School (PTKI), Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Friday.

With the percentage of fewer than 10 percent, Basaria said that the number of police woman is still low. "Now we do not ask the 30 percent quota of police woman but we are moving, at least, to the 10 percent quota first," she said.

Efforts to increase the number of police woman have already been included in the blue print formulated by the representatives of police woman, one of whom being Sr. Comr. Sri Handayani.

"In the bigger strategy that we have formulated, we expect to have 30 percent of police woman by the end of 2025," said Sri Handayani.
