TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Four mayors in Jakarta said they were ready to face the evaluation by Governor Joko Widodo and Deputy Governor Basuki T. Purnama on their performances and those of other top officials in the capital. They said so far they had done the best they could.

“I don’t know about the results yet, but anytime there’s an evaluation, we as soldiers are always ready,” said Central Jakarta Mayor Saefullah, who is purportedly in the safe zone following his successful reordering of the Tanah Abang Market.

Saefullah said he had done his best providing services to the people during his three-year tenure as the Mayor of Central Jakarta. As to the relocation and reordering of the street vendors in Tanah Abang, the mayor said there were still many things to improve and he needed extra time.

West Jakarta Mayor Fatahillah said he had also done everything in his powers to manage his area, including reorganizing street vendors in the area of Kota Tua as requested by Governor Jokowi.

“We will see the results in Kota Tua in no time,” he said, adding the results would be evident by the end of the year.

North Jakarta Mayor Bambang Sugiono said he would continue working as usual and execute his programs until the time of the planned evaluation in December 2013.

He said he was ready to step down should results of the evaluation pinpoint any indicator of a declining performance. “I will leave this matter in the hands of the Governor and the Deputy Governor,” he said.

He said mayors today are facing more complicated challenges as society, security, and defense issues were more substantial than technical ones such as road constructions. “The essence of the problems is varied and not always related to technical issues,” he said.

East Jakarta Mayor Krisdianto said he would use the evaluation to encourage himself and bolster his performance. “I’ve made some achievements so far, including the champion of the Adipura Trophy in Jakarta and the fourth place at the national level,” he said.

Governor Joko Widodo installed the East Jakarta Mayor in an ex-landfill area.
