TEMPO.CO, Sleman - The Yogyakarta Search and Rescue (SAR) team finally found Ehbrehnin Yevgeny, 26, a Russian hiker who climbed Mount Merapi and got lost since Sunday, August 11. Rescuers found him on the Thursday noon; five days after the man went missing.
"When we found him, he was in very weak conditions," Yogyakarta's SAR spokesman, Daru Supriyoko, said on Thursday, Aug. 15
Rescuers had been searching for Yevgeny since Sunday afternoon. The rescue units alternately sought for Yevgeny's latest position. He was found by the eighth unit.
Climbing the Merapi is actually only allowed through the northern route or via the Selo post in Boyolali, Central Java. Hikers are only allowed to go so far as one kilometer from the summit because the volcano has been blowing a brown blackish smoke recently.
