TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Yogyakarta’s Taman Pintar is set to launch a new zone named the Food Crop Zone to welcome tourists during the upcoming Eid Al Fitr holidays. Taman Pintar, or Smart Park, is a science park consisting of various educational zones aimed at providing a place to express, appreciate and learn about various types of sciences in a fun and entertaining way.

"For the first project, the zone will consist of a miniature milk factory," Yunianto Dwi Sutono, head of the Taman Pintar office, told Tempo yesterday.

Yunianto explained that visitors would be able to learn about how milk is processed and produced in detail, ranging from liquid milk all the way to powdered milk. The Food Crop Zone will answer the need for a recreational and educational outlet for applied sciences, which so far has included non-industrial fields.

This zone was built in collaboration with a domestic food producer located in Yogyakarta. All of the equipment needed for the zone has been provided by the company.

With this zone, Taman Pintar now has a total 47 zones with 1,273 tools and equipment used to demonstrate various things.

"After the Eid holidays, we plan to immediately launch another zone, which is the earthquake simulation zone, by collaborating with the BMKG," says Taman Pintar spokesperson Afrial Diana.

The Meteorology Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) will provide one unit for demonstration purposes worth Rp2 billion.

During the Eid holidays, Taman Pintar targets up to 12,000 visitors per day. Ticket prices will remain the same at Rp8,000 for children and Rp15,000 for adults.
