TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Mohamed Morsi supporters took to street to stage a rally on Friday, July 26, 2013. They gathered in numerous areas – Tahrir Square, the presidential palace, and outside Cairo University.

They staged the rally following news that Morsi was being detained for 15 days while prosecutors investigate allegations that he conspired with Hamas to carry out attacks during the 2011 uprising. To apply pressure to the process, the Muslim Brotherhood agreed to redouble its protests.

"He hasn't been detained, he's been kidnapped," said Shaimaa Mohamed, 21, one of his supporters. "They're holding the legitimacy of his government for ransom," he added.

Other supporter said that they won't give up until Morsi returns to the presidency.

Meanwhile, in Tahrir Square, the heart of the 2011 revolution that saw the removal of long-time dictator Hosni Mubarak, a much larger crowd spent the day chanted pro-military slogans.

There were fears that the military would take action against Morsi supporters. "The biggest fear is the call made General Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to take a military action against them," said political activist and analyst Wal Eskander.
