TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned construction company Wijaya Karya (WIKA) will build a precast concrete plant in Myanmar. Ganda Kusuma, Director of Wijaya Karya said that the initial investment for the project reached Rp 150 billion (around US$14,93 million). "The plant will cast 27,000 tons of concrete annually," said Ganda after signing the MoU with a Burmese company on Thursday, July 18.

WIKA has teamed up with a Burmese company, United Mercury Group (UMG), to work on the project. Ganda said that WIKA and UMG will form a joint venture. The company will build the plant on a five-hectare land prepared by UMG. "The construction process will take one year," said Ganda.

WIKA is planning on increasing its production capacity in compliance with the growing demands in Myanmar. Ganda feels confident that the company's business in Myanmar will gain profits due to relatively fewer competitors. "In fact, [Myanmar] has plenty of infrastructure projects," he added.
