TEMPO.CO, London - A video in Arsenal's official website shows some players wearing Batik, a traditional Indonesian cloth-made using a manual wax-resist dyeing technique.
In the one-minute-and-36-second video, Tomas Rosicky, Olivier Giroud, Mikel Arteta, Lukas Podolski, Per Mertesacker, and Wojciech Szczesny wore Batik for a special photo session. The session took place at The Shenley Training Centre, Arsenal's training ground.
The six players wore two designs displaying different crests to demonstrate the changing face of Arsenal Football Club. "These distinctive shirts originate in Indonesia and have become an important national symbol. They were specially-made in Indonesia and shipped to England ahead of the tour," Arsenal wrote in its official website.
The website also said that Podolski likes his Batik so much that he asked to keep it. The rest of the players will give the Batik away via competitions for Arsenal’s Twitter followers.
Arsenal is scheduled to arrive in Indonesian today at 15.00 Western Indonesian Time at Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, East Jakarta. The team will face Indonesia Dream Team at Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium on Sunday, July 14.
