UN to Scrutinize Human Rights in Indonesia

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's human rights record is to be examined for the first time by the United Nations Human Rights Committee on Wednesday July 10 and Thursday July 11 in sessions webcast live on the Internet, said a release by the Geneva-based UN Human Rights Committee.


As one of the 167 states parties to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, Indonesia is required to undergo regular examinations of its human rights record before the committee, which is composed of 18 international independent experts. It will engage in a dialogue with the delegation of Indonesian government officials on questions relating to the promotion and protection of human rights in the country.
