TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono called on Indonesians living in Egypt not to engage in their domestic affairs--especially political ones, following the overthrow of Egyptian President Mohammad Morsi by the military. The president asks Indonesians to avoid places with potential danger as the result of a political transition in Egypt.

"It is expected that all of our citizens are safe from the worst possibilities that may occur during the transition period," The President's spokesman Julian Aldien Pasha said the State Palace, Thursday, July 4.

Yudhoyono had asked Nurfaizi, the Indonesian Ambassador for Egypt, to keep monitoring the political situation and security in Egypt. If conditions worsen, Julian said, the President has given orders to anticipate, including facilitating the return of Indonesian citizens.

"Ambassador Nurfaizi reported to the President at around 02:00 am, and he was instructed to anticipate for the worst possibilities," said Julian.

Yudhoyono also asked Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa and Ambassador Nurfaizi to work together and prepare for a sudden evacuation.

Morsi's overthrow was announced by Egypt's Armed Forces Admiral, Gen. Abdul Fatah al-Sisi, on Wednesday, July 3. General Al-Sisi also announced the appointment of Egypt's Constitutional Court Chairman, Adli Mansour, as the interim president until the next election takes place.
