TEMPO.CO, Cairo - Adli Mansour, Head of Egypt's supreme constitutional court, will be sworn in as interim head of state, today, July 4. Earlier, the armed forces overthrew the elected President Mohamed Morsi on Wednesday, July 3 after the president decided to defy the army's ultimatum. Adli Mansour was born on December 23, 1945, and graduated from Cairo University with a B.A. in law in 1967. Achieved his masters' degree in Law in 1969.

Mansour started his career in Egypt’s administrative court in 1970 and stayed there until he became the vice chairman of the court in 1992, before moving to the supreme constitutional court where he served as its first deputy. He held a position of the constitutional court head on July 1, appointed through a decree from a top judiciary council that was approved by Morsi.

Overthrown President Mohammad Morsi, along with most members of the presidential team, is now placed under house arrest at the Republican Guard Club, a senior adviser to Freedom and Justice Party and spokesman for the Muslim Brotherhood said today.

"Morsi and the entire presidential team are under house arrest in the Presidential Republican Guards Club," Gehad El-Haddad, the son of a top Morsi aide, told AFP news agency. He also stated that his father, Essam El-Haddad, widely seen as Morsi's right-hand man, was also arrested.

Spokesman of Egypt’s armed forces refused to confirm the arrest. It is unclear whether Morsi will be allowed to leave the place.
