TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Heru Sambodo, energy compartment director for the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association’s (HIPMI), asked the government to improve Indonesia's mining infrastructure. HIPMI also encourages the government to support mid-sized coal industries in order to boost the domestic coal supply.

"In addition to secure of coal supply; transportation aspects such as ports, roads, and vehicles have major impact on delivery. The government must pay attention to its mining infrastructure in order to make production costs more efficient," Heru said in a discussion at the HIPMI office, Wednesday, May 29.

Heru added that cost efficiency can also be improved by encouraging industries to convert to coal. The increasing number of industries converting to coal is in line with the global economic recovery.

"Energy demand in several coal importing countries has spurred coal exports to China, Japan, and South Korea," Heru said.
