TEMPO.CO, Tasikmalaya - The Tasikmalaya district of West Java exported Rp16 trillion worth of iron sand through the Port of Cilacap, Central Java, from 2004 to May 2013.

Chairman of Commission 3 of Tasikmalaya Legislative Council, Erry Purwanto, said that the sales value of iron sand is not comparable with the royalty obtained by the local government. "This year, only Rp700 million of the iron sand royalties have been received," he said after a discussion on iron sand mining in the Tasikmalaya District Secretariat, Monday, May 27.

He added that iron sand mining in Tasikmalaya has yet to provide benefits for the area's development. He hopes that the local government would re-examine the management of iron sand mining to provide more benefits for the community and the district's development.

"The review is also to find out where the flow of funds from iron sand," he explained.
