TEMPO.CO, Barcelona - Fernando Alonso, Spanish Formula 1 racer, won the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday, May 12, bringing joy to the home crowd. Starting from the fifth position on the starting grid, Alonso beat Lotus racer Kimi Rikonnen, by an almost 10 second gap. Meanwhile, the Spaniard's teammate Felipe Massa, finished third with a 26 second gap followed by Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel in fourth position with a 38,2 second gap.

Despite the absence of a Red Bull racer on the podium, Alonso still considers the team as Ferrari's main contender.

"Last year, we failed to win the championship. We were one second behind Red Bull, but even with that we managed to fight until the final race in Brazil," said Alonso, a two-time world champion. "This year we have in our hands a package that maybe is not the fastest, but we are working on that."

This victory is Alonso's second victory at Circuit de Catalunya after his victory in 2006.

On the other hand, Mclaren Mercedes has to be satisfied with Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton finishing in the sixth and 12th position, respectively.
