TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Trade Gita Wiryawan carried out another unannounced inspection today, Sunday, May 12th 2013. This time, he visited Klender SS traditional market, in East Jakarta. To the press, he said that he wanted to hear firsthand the complaints from the beef sellers. “So I can get proofs from direct sources,” he told the press.

It turned out that beef sellers are still complaining about the beef’s high price. According to Director General of Domestic Trade from the Ministry of Trade, Srie Agustin, the price of beef is stable but at a high price. “It’s around Rp 85-95 thousands,” she told Tempo on Sunday morning.

The high price has prompted the Ministry of Trade to take measure so as to calm down both the sellers and the consumers. To Tempo, Srie said that the Ministry would accelerate the supplies of beef by moving the supplies from the third quarter to the second quarter. “(The measure) is to maintain the price of beef,” she said.

In the meantime, Rukyat, 55 years old, one of the beef sellers in the market, told Gita Wiryawan about the beef's high price, which is still at Rp 95 thousands. In response, Gita pledged that he would formulate a policy to address the matter. “I’ll do my best to reduce the beef price,” said Gita to Rukyat.
