TEMPO.CO, New York - Several scientists made it to the list of TIME Magazine's 100 most influential people in the world for 2013, along with US President Barack Obama, movie director Steven Spielberg, and Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence.

The scientists are spaceflight entrepreneur Elon Musk, breast cancer researcher Kimberly Blackwell, asteroid hunter Don Yeomans, two NASA Mars rover Curiosity's project managers, and three scientists who cured an HIV-positive baby.

The scientist are on the list for their efforts and achievements in finding medicine for two deadly diseases and for space exploration. Beside scientist, The Time chose 100 figures in five categories, which are titans, leaders, artists, pioneers, and icons.

Three AIDS researchers — Katherine Luzuriaga, Deborah Persaud, and Hannah gay — made it to the pioneer list by curing a newborn baby of AIDS.

Luzuriaga has been involved in a research on children with HIV/AIDS for more than two decades. In 2010, Luzuriaga, together with Persaud and Gay, handled a newborn baby whose mother was infected by HIV/AIDS, in a hospital in Mississippi. The baby was immediately given a series of medicine until the age of 18 months. 5 months after the medication was done, the baby is no longer infected with HIV.

The baby, now 2 year and 6 month old, is still HIV-free. The treatment gives hope for babies infected by HIV all over the world.
