Iran: Syrian Rebel Must Not Win

TEMPO.CO, Tehran - President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Sunday confirmed Iran’s support for Damascus. He believed that the victory of Syrian rebels would threaten the entire region.
“A group coming into power through war and conflict will lead to endless war and security issues,” Ahmadinejad told a delegation led by Essam El Haddad, adviser to Egypt’s President Mohammed Morsi.
“The lack of security in Syria will endanger the security of other regional countries and will threaten the entire region,” he said. Ahmadinejad also added that Tehran and Cairo should accelerate their efforts to resolve Syrian issues through mutual understanding and dialogue.
Essam El Haddad arrived in Tehran on Saturday, April 17, to offer Cairo’s proposal regarding the stance of four Islamic countries in resolving the Syrian conflict, The four countries are Egypt, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.
In addition to the proposal, Egypt’s visit was done in an effort to strengthen its ties with Iran which were fragile for decades, following Tehran’s opposition to Cairo’s peace treaty with Israel. Ahmadinejad said to his guests that Tehran is ready to improve its ties with Cairo and ready to support the Egyptian government.
