TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Sukedris, a middle-age man from Penjaringan, Jakarta, responded to the ongoing rumor about next year’s election. He said that his governor, Joko Widodo, should not be flattered by the poll, survey, or any results of political party convention. Sukedris even waited for Jokowi in the hallway of the city hall among the crowd of journalists on Wednesday, saying that he was going to talk to the governor.
Speaking in a distinctive Javanese accent, he said that Jokowi should think of the people in Jakarta before taking any further decision. He emphasized that Jokowi should not be provoked by political parties asking him to run for presidential election.
Responding to Sukedris, Jokowi smiled and said, “When asked about presidential election, I will remain true to my statement that I will focus myself on Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), monorail, traffic, and flood.”
Separately, Jhoni Simajuntak, the secretary of Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) fraction from Jakarta Regional People’s Representative Council, agreed that Jokowi should fulfill his duty as the governor before making any plans to participate in the Presidential election. Nonetheless, Joni said that it is impossible to resist the people from wanting Jokowi to be president.
“People like his data-style of blusukan (inspection) and interraction,” he said.
Similar to Jhoni, M. Sanusi, the Chairman of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra) fraction mentioned that Jokowi should run for presidency.
