TEMPO.CO, Bogor – Democratic Party secretary of the Board of Trustees, Jero Wacik, said that many the party's 33 Regional Council leaders asked Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to be its chairman.
"Many suggested SBY for chairman," Jero said after a meeting at Puri Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, Sunday, March 24. The meeting lasted for nearly four hours beginning at 13:00.
Jero said that SBY would think about it, because he still has his duties as head of state. "His job as president is big enough, important enough, and must be prioritized," he said.
In addition to Yudhoyono, Democrat local officials also proposed other candidates. "Some proposed Mrs. Ani (Ani Yudhoyono). Others suggested Ibas (Eddy Baskoro Yudhoyono)," Jero said. Although not yet decided, Jero ensured these proposals would be considered by the party's high council.
The meeting in Cikeas was attended by the Democrat's high council's members, party's central and local leaders, as well as Democrat cabinet ministers.
