TEMPO.CO, Jakarta: 'Cinta Tapi Beda', a new movie by Director Hanung Bramantyo was reported to the Jakarta Police Department by the Society of the Young Men and Women of Minang Indonesia and the Coordination Agency of Minangkabau Culture and Society in Jakarta and the surrounding areas. The movie, which tells the story of two lovers with different beliefs, was reported to the police for allegedly instilling a sense of hatred towards the Minangkabau ethnic. "In our opinion--the opinion of the Minang ethnic community, the movie has instilled a feeling of hatred or contempt against the Minang ethnic," said attorney for the Society Zulhendri Hasan after filing his report to the Police Services Center (SPK) on Jan. 7.He explained that the role portrayed by Agni Pratistha was of a leading lady from the Minang ethnic group who was a devout Catholic. In fact, it is widely known that the Minang people were Moslem."To people, the word Minang is synonymous with the Minangkabau Padang ethnic group in Indonesia and Minang is synonymous with Islam. This, obviously, describes something that is the opposite," he said. The Minangkabau society was incensed to hear a dialogue by the main character, a woman named Diana. "In the dialog Diana said that her favorite dish was babi rica-rica (spicy pork). This, obviously, presents something that is to the contrary," he explained.Zulhendri said that if Hanung wanted to display a story about religious differences, he did not have to show ethnic differences. "But why did he show ethnic differences inappropriately. We would have accepted it if the differences in religious and social culture are shown appropriately," he argued.Zulhendri also demanded the Film Censorship Board (LSF) to stop showing the movie because it violates Law No. 33/2009 on movies, in particular Article 2 and Article 6 letters C, D, E and F.ARDIANSYAH RAZAK BAKRI
