TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Hutomo Mandala Putra alias Tommy, a suspect in the drive-by murder of Judge Syafiuddin Kartasasmita who is also suspected of owning numerous firearms and ammunition, was sent to Cipinang Penitentiary in East Jakarta on Wednesday (20/2). The youngest son of former president Suharto arrived at the penitentiary at 3:05 p.m., following an administrative inspection at the Jakarta Prosecutors Office. Tommy, the owner of PT Humpuss was moved from the Jakarta Police detention center into Cipinang Penitentiary. Scores of the Jakarta Police Mobile Brigade personnel provided tight security during the move. Following a welcome by the Head of Cipinang Penitentiary, Ngusman, Tommy was sent to the isolated Block 3-H. Chief of South Jakarta Prosecutors Office Antasari Azhar, Tommy’s lawyer Elsa Syarief, and penitentiary officials accompanied the suspect to his cell. Elsa Syarief denied that Tommy would be allowed luxury items in the cell. There are only two rattan chairs, a small table, and a mattress on the floor. “No luxury items, such as television, air-conditioner, or even a fan,” Elsa said. Elsa explained that Tommy was the sole resident of cell 1, Block 3-H. For several days, he would be accompanied by a penitentiary official while he learns to adapt to his new place. Elsa said her client had followed the procedure at the penitentiary. She admitted that the conditions at Cipinang penitentiary was better than the cell at the Jakarta Police jail.
