TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:Seven Indonesian religious figures and intellectuals will meet Pope John Paul II to convey their stance in protesting the attack against Iraq. The seven figures were scheduled to fly out on Tuesday evening (18/2) after meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs Hassan Wirajuda in Jakarta on Tuesday The seven are Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) Hasyim Muzadi, Chairman of Muhammadiyah Syafii Maarif, Cardinal Julius Darmaatmadja, SJ from Bishop Council of Indonesia (KWI), Rev. Natan Setiabudi from Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI), I Nyoman Suanda (Hindu), and Bhiksu Supeno Alidjurnawan from the Indonesian Buddhist Council (WALUBI). The delegation will also pay a visit to Brussels, Belgium, before returning to Indonesia. Minister Hassan Wirajuda said the delegation would meet European country and parliamentary leaders. Nationalist Roeslan Abdulgani failed to joint the delegation because of his poor health. Cardinal Julius Darmaatmadja, who is leading the delegation, explained they will convey a moral call due to the threat of war. We will support the moral call conveyed all around the world, including the demonstrators, said Julius, who is also the Archbishop of Jakarta. (Zacharias Wuragil- Tempo News Room)
