TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:In regards to a bomb that exploded in Maluku last night, Coordinating Minister for Political and Security Affairs Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said today (14/2) the government and the police would take stern measures against those trying to disturb the recovery of security situation in Maluku. He admitted that some people, both from Islamic and Christian groups, refused to bring peace in the Maluku region as stipulated in the Malino II agreement. However, that’s their right. “But, if they mobilize, lead or even involve themselves in new conflict and violence, they must justify their acts and security apparatus will take stern measures against them,” Yudhoyono said. Yudhoyono asked people not to get provoked in the efforts to start a new conflict. As for Indonesian Military (TNI)/National Police officers, they must pay serious attention in handling the security situation in Maluku. “The peace process must go on,” he said. Yudhoyono declined to mention the groups that refuse to establish peace in Maluku. One thing for sure, the government has acknowledged parties from both Muslim and Christian groups, who refused the peace process. “Let the legal process on this case continue and give Maluku people another chance to start their new life,” Yudhoyono said.
