Exxon Mobil to Restart Operations at the End of June

TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The executive director ofPertamina State Oil Company Baihaqi Hakim wasoptimistic that the Exxon Mobil Oil Indonesia wouldrestart operations at the end of this month. Thedeadline has been made in order to meet demands forliquid natural gas (LNG) from buyers in Korea andJapan. “Exxon will start repairing equipment andemploying more workers on June 18, 2001,” Baihaqi saidto the press during a break of the cabinet meeting inthe political, social and security affairs office atthe Merdeka Selatan Palace in Jakarta today (15/6).
Baihaqi declined to provide details regarding thesettlement of the reparation. “They (Exxon) are yetto confirm this. However, I think it will be confirmedsoon,” he said.
In the beginning, particularly for the LNG production,Exxon will produce 50 percent of its usual capacity. This production is expected to increase along with thereparation process.
The Acehnese Governor Abdullah Puteh was alsooptimistic with the deadline. “The local governmenthas prepared the operation to the best of theirability,” Puteh said.
The cabinet meeting was led by Vice President MegawatiSukarnoputri and attended by the cabinet ministers,the TNI chief Adm. Widodo AS, the State IntelligenceBoard chief Arie J. Kumaat and the National PlanningBoard chairman Djunaidi Hadi Sumarno.
