TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government has evacuated 120 Indonesian citizens from Iraq to Jordan due to the United States plan to attack Iraq, according to Coordinating Minister for Peoples Welfare Yusuf Kalla. We evacuated the people last week, Kalla said in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/2). Kalla explained that the government has evacuated 120 people out of the between 200 and 300 Indonesian citizens in Iraq. The rest of them are still being accommodated in certain places and will be evacuated at any time. I Gusti Made Arka, Director General of Overseas Workers Affairs at the Ministry of Manpower and Transmigration, has confirmed the evacuation. However, only students were evacuated, not workers, according to him. Arka and the head of the evacuation team Widodo AS and Indonesian Ambassador for Iraq are scheduled to visit the country next week. They will observe dangerous places in border areas and determine where to accommodate the people before evacuating them. Arka said the Ministry of Finance would provide the funds for the evacuation.
