TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The Indonesian government is considering the demand of the Singaporean authorities to extradite Mas Slamet Bin Kastari, an alleged member of the Jamaah Islamiyah organization, who was arrested recently in Tanjung Pinang, Riau. However, it would have to be a mutually benefical agreement as there is as yet no official extradition treaty between Indonesia and Singapore. We might consider extraditing bin Kastari to Singapore, said Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra prior to a cabinet meeting at the State Secretary office in Jakarta on Thursday (6/2). Bin Kastari has been listed on a Interpol search list as a very dangerous fugitive. Singaporean police have met with Bin Kastari, who is alleged to be one of the leaders of the Jamaah Islamiya organization, in Riau on Wednesday (5/2). Mahendra said that the extradition would have to be mutually beneficial, meaning that Singapore would have do the same for Indonesia at the request of the government. So, the Singaporean authorities must have that kind of commitment, stated Mahendra. (Dede Ariwibowo Tempo News Room)
