TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Welcome to the 11th Jakarta International Film Festival is probably the greeting highly anticipated by avid movie goers in the capital this year. The festival which has gone through, among others, sponsorships and censors problems, managed to enter its 11th year will start tomorrow, bringing 115 films from 26 countries to be screened until December 12th. One new feature offered in this years event according to chief organiser of the fest Lalu Roisamri was the Islamic films, which are going to be presented for the first time under a separate category of Madani or civil in English.The festival to open with the sequel of the blockbuster Laskar Pelangi (The Rainbow Troops), Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamers) directed by Riri Riza. The first one was inspired by a novel of the same title by Andrea Hirata which tells the story of how children in a remote in Sumatra deal with insufficient education facilities in reaching their dreams. In the sequel, Riri Riza presents the same problem in the dimension of teenage life.The most considered film in the Madani category will be the Letters to the President a documentary on the life of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.The festival also continue one of its tradition of holding screenplay workshop which will present Dav Weber from the United State and Christian Schoerer a visual designer of the Switzerland.The festival had been, in the past, supported by the Tourism and Cultural Department and major foreign donors and sponsors which include several foreign embassies in Jakarta, but this year the festival is entirely supported by the Trade Department.AGUSLIA HIDAYAH
