TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources has set the electricity tariffs for the second quarter period (April-June) of 2026 without an increase. The Energy Ministry stated that the policy was created to support the public's purchasing power.
"The public need not worry because the electricity tariffs for the second quarter of 2026 remain unchanged. This decision has been made to support the public's purchasing power ahead of the Eid holiday after calculating various macroeconomic parameters," said the Acting Director General of Electricity at the Energy Ministry, Tri Winarno, as quoted by Antara on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
In accordance with Ministerial Regulation No. 7 of 2024 regarding the Electricity Tariffs provided by PT PLN (Persero), the evaluation of electricity tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidized customer groups is conducted every three months based on changes in the realization of macroeconomic parameters. These parameters include the exchange rate of the Indonesian Rupiah against the U.S. Dollar, the Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA).
For the determination of the tariffs in the second quarter of 2026, the macroeconomic parameters used were the realizations from November 2025 to January 2026. These parameters were an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per U.S. Dollar, ICP of US$62.78 per barrel, inflation of 0.22 percent, and an HBA of US$70 per ton, in accordance with the coal DMO policy.
These parameters are used to calculate electricity tariffs, which may change according to the formula. However, to maintain the industry's competitiveness, the public's purchasing power, and national economic stability amid the current global situation, the government has decided not to adjust electricity tariffs. The same applies to the 25 subsidized customer groups.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is urging PT PLN to continue ensuring the reliability of electricity supply and to improve the quality of service to customers. Additionally, PLN is also asked to optimize operational efficiency to ensure a reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
