TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The central leadership council of the NasDem Party has suspended Ahmad Sahroni and Nafa Urbach from their positions as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) from the NasDem Party faction as of September 1, 2025. This decision was communicated by the Secretary-General of the NasDem Party, Hermawi Taslim, in his written statement on Sunday, August 30, 2025.

Hermawi stated that the NasDem Party expresses condolences for the deaths of several citizens in the demonstration. He mentioned that statements made by members of the DPR-RI from the NasDem Party faction, which have offended and hurt the feelings of the people, constitute a deviation from the struggle of the NasDem Party.

"Based on the considerations mentioned above, the Central Executive Board of the NasDem Party hereby declares that as of Monday, September 1, 2025, the Central Executive Board of the NasDem Party suspends Mr. Ahmad Sahroni and Ms. Nafa Urbach as members of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR-RI) from the NasDem Party faction," Hermawi said.

Hermawi stated that the struggle of the NasDem Party is actually a crystallization and spirit of popular sovereignty that always rests on the national goals of the Indonesian state as stipulated in the preamble of the 1945 Constitution.

A day earlier, Sahroni was transferred from the position of Deputy Chair of the 3rd Commission of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) for the 2024-2029 period. Secretary-General of the NasDem Party, Hermawi Franziskus Taslim, confirmed the transfer. "Yes, that's correct," Hermawi said when contacted via WhatsApp messaging application on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The decision of the transfer is stated in a letter numbered F. NasDem. 758 /DPR-RI/VIII/2025. According to a copy of the document received by Tempo, the decision of the transfer is mentioned in accordance with the results of the leadership meeting of the NasDem Party faction in the DPR. "With all due respect, we convey the change of the members' names of Commissions III and IV starting from August 29, 2025 from the NasDem Party faction," the letter stated.

Ahmad Sahroni, who originally held the position of Deputy Chair of the 3rd Commission, was moved to become a member of the 1st Commission of the DPR. This means that he now serves on the commission responsible for foreign affairs, defense, and intelligence. Sahroni no longer leads the legal commission.

Ahmad Sahroni has recently attracted public attention after responding to the discourse of dissolving the legislative institution. The NasDem legislator referred to criticism calling for the dissolution of the DPR as something exaggerated. He even labeled the parties and the people advocating the discourse as "stupid people."

"Is it convincing for the public to undergo the current government process by dissolving the DPR? Not necessarily," Sahroni said after a working visit in North Sumatra on Friday, August 22, 2025.

As a result of his statement, the public became angry. His house in the Tanjung Priok area, North Jakarta, was stormed by a mob yesterday. His car and home were damaged and looted by the mob.
