According to Darsono, Nessens stay at the GAM base without reporting to the Aceh military state of emergency authorities is proof that he sides with the GAM.
He went on to say he regretted Nessens unwillingness to obey the deadline set by the TNI for him to leave the GAM base.
Hes supposed to report immediately to the nearest TNI post before the deadline ends, Darsono said in Banda Aceh, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam (NAD) province, on Sunday (15/6).
He admitted that on Saturday afternoon (14/6), Nessen contacted TNI Operational Command chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Darmono in Lhokseumawe, Aceh.
Nessen, who first introduced himself as reporter of The Jakarta Post, proposed three conditions to the TNI.
These conditions are that he not be shot, interrogated or arrested by the TNI.
If the TNI meets these conditions, Nessen will leave the GAM base.
At that time, Darsono said, Darmono agreed that Nessen would not be shot if he left the GAM base and reported to the nearest TNI post.
However, Darmono refused to grant the other conditions requested by Nessen.
We will demand information from him regarding his work during his stay in the GAM base, said Darsono.
In addition, Nessen did not report to the TNI when he entered the NAD province.
We will certainly take measures against him according to the prevailing laws, stated Darsono.
According to Darsono, foreign media tend to worsen the image of the TNI in the eyes of the international community despite the TNIs attempts to carry out its tasks professionally and uphold human rights during the military operation.
He also said that the US Embassy in Indonesia is yet to request anything from the TNI in regard to Nessen.
According to Darsono, the Embassy has also stated that no US journalist named William Nessen has carried out any journalistic work in Indonesia.
