TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Rwandan Ambassador to Indonesia Sheikh Abdul Karim Harelimana has expressed hopes of signing several new agreements with Indonesia on the sidelines of the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF).

The forum will be held in Bali from September 1–3, 2024.

"We expect, on the sidelines of the IAF, some other MOUs will be signed, especially between the PSF with Kadin (Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry)," Harelimana told ANTARA here on Thursday, referring to the Private Sector Federation (PSF), which has a similar role as Kadin.

Regarding the planned cooperation between the two organizations, he said that a PSF delegation will come to Indonesia to sign a memorandum of understanding with Kadin on the sidelines of the IAF event series.

They will also share their best experiences and explore business possibilities with Kadin and other partners.

In addition, Rwanda is hoping to sign a memorandum of understanding in the security sector on the sidelines of the IAF.

"There were discussions about security. I mean the Indonesia National Police and Rwanda National Police. And there is a draft for an MoU about collaboration and the cooperation for both countries," the ambassador revealed.

Besides the agreements that Rwanda will pursue during the forum series, in the future, Harelimana is hoping to secure greater cooperation between the two countries, including in the field of education and academics and student exchanges.

Rwanda is also interested in cooperating on visa exemptions for ordinary passports, following a previous agreement on visa exemptions for diplomatic and service passports.

In addition, it is considering the possibility of cooperating in the fields of defense industry, agriculture, culture, mining, and technology innovation, as well as artificial intelligence.

"So, Indonesia is also moving in that way. Of course, cooperation between the two countries, cooperation between Africa and Indonesia in that area is also highly needed as the countries and as the Global South," he added.

With the theme of "Bandung Spirit for Africa's Agenda 2063," the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum is expected to lay the foundation for building cooperation between Indonesia and African countries in the future.

The cooperation that will be prioritized at the forum will cover economic transformation, energy, mining, food security, health, and development, among others.
