TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Golkar Party officially declares Bahlil Lahadalia as the party’s chief for 2024-2029. Bahlil became the sole candidate for Golkar Party Chief, thus the national congress members unanimously elected the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources as the party leader.
The national congress also authorizes Bahlil to compose the Golkar Party board for the next period. “Appointing and ratifying Bahlil Lahadalia as the chair of the Golkar Party Central Leadership Board for the 2024-2029 period and mandate him as the sole formator,” said the Golkar Party Board Secretary Ace Hasan at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
Ace emphasized that Bahlil officially became the new chief of the Golkar Party as soon as the congress decision was read. Bahlil gains unanimous backing from congress members and the man raises the Golkar Party flag onstage.
Bahlil replaces Airlangga Hartarto after the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs stepped down two weeks ago. Airlangga said his decision to resign was to maintain the Golkar Party’s internal solidarity.
Several board members of the Golkar Party previously admitted that the true reason for Airlangga’s resignation was due to the pressure relating to his upcoming legal cases, including the CPO export permit at the Trade Ministry. Airlangga was summoned as a witness in the middle of last year.
