TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Internet Domain Name Manager (PANDI) has introduced IDCHAIN, a blockchain-based digital identity management system designed to enhance personal data protection and security. IDCHAIN empowers users to manage, secure, and share their digital identities in a safe and decentralized manner.
PANDI Chairman John Sihar Simanjuntak said that data security is the major focus in today’s digital world. The rampant hacking and data leaks are not only a serious threat to the public and companies but also to a country's defense system. He highlighted blockchain technology as a promising solution for strengthening digital infrastructure.
“We know that issues of personal data misuse have emerged in the last few days, such as 4.7 million data of civil servants (ASN) being sold on hacker forums and the ID data misuse for online loans and regional elections, so it is crucial to secure our data,” John said in the Bali Blockchain Summit 2024 panel discussion at Dharma Negara Alaya, Denpasar, Bali, on Tuesday, August 20, 2024.
“IDCHAIN will play a vital role in the personal data protection ecosystem in the future. Not only does it comply with the Personal Data Protection Law (UU PDP), but it also strengthens individual rights over their data, and brings us closer to a new era where data privacy and security are top priorities,” he added.
Through IDCHAIN, John explained, that personal data will no longer be controlled by a centralized entity, but by the data owner himself, while complying with applicable legal regulations, namely Law No. 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection.
In addition, the UID Protocol within IDCHAIN adheres to the globally recognized W3C DID standard for decentralized identification (DIDs), ensuring that users or UID subjects have full autonomy over their identities.
“Therefore, for this decentralized identifiers initiative to be accepted by the public, we need key stakeholders, in this case, PANDI, which is very open to cooperation to expand the network and its applications,” John added.
The Bali Blockchain Summit 2024, attended by numerous participants and industry players, showcased a commitment to sustainable innovation in blockchain technology. Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno echoed this sentiment in his speech. “I hope to welcome a brighter future by using blockchain technology as a solid foundation to protect and develop digital works.”
