TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that most areas in West Java will routinely experience light rain for the upcoming week. The weather in the province has tended to be wet since August 12 tomorrow until the 79th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.

Head of the West Java BMKG Climatology Station, Rakhmat Prasetia, said that the sea temperature in the western part of Indonesia which is still relatively warm triggers the formation of rain clouds. "So that it supports the addition of water vapor supply to the West Java region," he said in a written statement, on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

The BMKG team also noted the influence of air humidity, as well as atmospheric lability, which is generally in the mild to moderate labile category in parts of West Java. The bulk of West Java will see low-criteria rainfall in August 2024, according to the prediction of dasarian (10 days period), which predicted the rainfall to happen on the second period of 10 days of August 2024. There is just a 50 millimeter maximum amount of rainfall.

"Meanwhile, the potential for moderate to heavy rain generally (falls) in the western region of Bumi Pasundan," said Rakhmat.

On Monday, August 12, 2024, the BMKG predicts moderate to heavy rain in Bogor Regency and City, Sukabumi Regency and City, and Cianjur. The rain has the potential to be accompanied by lightning and strong winds. The next few days, the same area, will have almost no rain. All that remains is the chance of light rain. On the Independence Day, August 17, 2024, moderate to heavy rain is predicted to fall in Bogor Regency and City, Sukabumi Regency and City, Cianjur, and Bandung Regency.

The conditions of the second ten days period in West Java are different from the first ten days period of August 2024. Last week, there were still 20 percent of areas with the potential for rain in the medium to high category. In the first decade, the areas that experienced the longest days without rain or drought were Telagasari and Sukamanah, Garut Regency. The duration of no rain was up to 36 days.
