Indonesia Climbs to 28th in Paris Olympics Medal Standings

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia’s medal count has risen to two golds and one bronze, bringing the nation to the 28th position in the 2024 Paris Olympics standings. The latest gold was clinched by weightlifter Rizki Juniansyah in the men’s 73-kg category.
According to the Olympics’ official site, as of 4:00 a.m. Indonesian Western Time (WIB) on Friday, August 9, the United States continued to dominate the medal tally with 30 gold, 38 silver, and 35 bronze medals.
China followed in second place with 28 gold, 25 silver, and 19 bronze. Australia secured the third spot with 18 gold, 14 silver, and 13 bronze. Meanwhile, host country France held the fourth spot with 14 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze.
In Southeast Asia, the Philippines ranked higher than Indonesia at 25th with two gold and two bronze medals. Thailand trailed behind Indonesia albeit winning six medals, namely one gold, two silver, and three bronze.
Rizki Juniansyah’s gold medal victory also saw him set a new junior record in the 73-kg weightlifting clean and jerk category, lifting a total of 354 kg. He defeated his Thai rival who earned silver with a total of 346 kg and the Bulgarian competitor who claimed bronze with 344 kg.
Indonesia’s first gold medal was awarded to Veddriq Leonardo in the men's speed rock climbing final on Thursday, August 8, while Gregoria Mariska Tunjung contributed a bronze in the women's singles badminton athlete.
