TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Henley Passport Index has revealed the latest ranking of the world's most powerful passports. The index ranks countries based on the number of destinations their citizens have access to over the past 19 years. The ranking is based on exclusive data from the International Air Transport Authority or IATA. A total of 199 passports and 227 destinations are evaluated for a monthly update on the world’s most powerful passports.
The Henley Passport Index does not only consider visa-free access but also a country’s diplomatic relations and international agreements.
Often, countries with strong passports also have strong international ties and positive diplomatic relations. These countries have negotiated extensive visa waivers, allowing their citizens to freely explore the world without bureaucratic obstacles.
Top 3 Asian Passports
In Asia, three countries consistently managed to remain in the top 10 strongest passports in the world. Citing Times of India, here’s the list of Asia’s strongest passports:
1. Singapore
Singapore has once again taken the top spot in the country with the strongest passport. Holders of Singaporean passports can travel to 195 destinations without pre-arrival visa. This exceptional ranking reflects Singapore’s strong global diplomatic relations and strategic international agreements.
2. South Korea
South Korea ranked third, tied with Austria, Finland, Ireland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, and Sweden. South Korean passport holders hold visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 191 countries. The strength of South Korea’s passports underscores the nation’s robust international connection and effective diplomacy.
3. United Arab Emirates
Along with Estonia and Lithuania, the United Arab Emirates allows its passport holders to travel freely to 184 countries. This reflects the UAE’s successful foreign relations and growing influence on the global stage.
