TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's former Vice President Hamzah Haz reportedly died this morning, July 24, at his home in Tegalan. He was 84 years old.
The sad news of the 9th Vice President's death was confirmed by the Secretary General of the United Development Party (PPP), Arwani Thomafi.
"Dr. Hamzah Haz passed away at 9:30 this morning at his residence in Tegalan," Arwani told Tempo on Wednesday.
PPP politician Achmad Baidowi also confirmed the sad news.
Arwani said Hamzah Haz would be buried at the family cemetery complex in Cisarua, Bogor today after noon prayers.
Hamzah Haz was born on February 15, 1940. He served as the ninth Vice President of Indonesia from 2001 to 2004 under President Megawati Sukarnoputri. Prior to becoming vice president, Hamzah was a cabinet minister and a member of the House of Representatives (DPR).
