TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Home Affairs has urged regional governments to develop a standard operating procedure (SOP) for inflation control.

The SOP will outline short- and long-term inflation control measures, said Tomsi Tohir, the ministry's acting secretary general, in a statement on Monday, July 22, 2024.

He added that programs addressing long-term issues and prevention are not yet extensive.

"Drawing on the experience of our weekly meetings over the past two years, we believe each region should have a concrete plan, such as an SOP," he said.

Since September 2022, the ministry has been holding a weekly inflation control coordination meeting with regional governments.

Tohir highlighted various achievements in the past two years, including resolving fertilizer, immunization, and rice field data collection issues.

However, evaluating inflation control programs remains crucial, especially for regions without an SOP when inflation rates change.

Tohir clarified that location is not a determining factor in inflation control. He cited eastern Indonesia, particularly Papua, where not all areas have high inflation rates, despite several western regions exceeding the national average of 2.51 percent.

"Here, we can see those that are above 2.51 percent: Bali, Central Sulawesi, Lampung, East Kalimantan, Aceh, North Maluku, Jambi, North Sumatra, Riau Islands, Riau, Maluku, Bengkulu, West Papua, Gorontalo, and West Sumatra," he noted.

He stressed that transportation and weather challenges should not hinder efforts and urged regional governments to proactively address these issues.
