1. Bali Dubbed World's Third-best Island to Travel; Here's the Complete Top 10 List
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Bali has been dubbed the third-best island in Travel+Leisure World’s Best Awards 2024. Bali’s pristine beaches and clear waters make it an ideal place for relaxation and rejuvenation, with an exhaustive list of exciting activities, from surfing and snorkeling to attending traditional festivals and sampling local cuisine.
Called the “Island of the Gods”, Travel+Leisure says that Bali's rich heritage can be experienced through traditional ceremonies, ancient temples, and intricate dance performances. Travel+Leisure readers also praised the Balinese people and the value for money because holidays on the island are relatively cheap for foreign tourists.
One reader wrote that Bali has "great beach, great food, good hospitality.”
2. Indonesia Commits to Boost Support for UNRWA
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has committed to increasing its annual contribution to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) by US$1.2 million (around Rp19.34 billion) as a form of ongoing support for UNRWA's vital work in assisting Palestinian refugees.
“The Indonesian government has declared a new commitment in the form of increasing its regular voluntary contribution by US$1.2 million per year starting in 2024,” the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a written statement on Sunday, July 14.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the Indonesia Permanent Representative, Ambassador Arrmanatha Nasir, delivered the statement to the UN at the UNRWA "Pledging Conference" at the UN Headquarters in New York on July 12.
3. Hamas Says it Has Not Left Ceasefire Talks After Israeli Attacks
TEMPO.CO, Cairo - A senior Hamas official said on Sunday, July 14, 2024, that the Islamist group has not withdrawn from ceasefire talks with Israel after this weekend's deadly attacks in Gaza that Israel said had targeted the group's military leader Mohammed Deif.
But Izzat El-Reshiq, a member of the political office of Hamas, accused Israel of trying to derail efforts by Arab mediators and the United States to reach a ceasefire deal by stepping up its attacks in the enclave.
Saturday's strike in the Khan Younis area of Gaza, in which at least 90 Palestinians were killed according to local health authorities, has put the ceasefire talks in doubt.
