TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Australia and Indonesia have further bolstered their cooperation on the energy transition with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Jakarta on Tuesday, July 2. David Fredericks, Secretary of Australia's Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment, and Water (DCCEEW), and Dadan Kusdiana, Secretary General of Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), inked the agreement.

This MoU signifies a deepened partnership between the two nations, Fredericks said. It leverages the unique strengths of both countries to support clean energy advancements, infrastructure investments, and the achievement of net-zero emissions.

“In collaboration, we will work together to share knowledge and best practice approaches to tackle key issues in the energy transition and to achieve net zero,” Fredericks said.

The Australian Embassy, alongside the ESDM Ministry, will actively identify collaborative opportunities focusing on renewable energy integration, energy efficiency, and clean energy supply chains.

Eniya Listiani Dewi, Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation at the ESDM Ministry, expressed Indonesia's enthusiasm for enhanced cooperation in the energy sector.

“We also aim to drive private investment to accelerate our journey towards achieving net zero emissions,” Eniya said.

The Australian Embassy in Jakarta said this partnership will reinforce the annual Australia-Indonesia Energy Dialogue. It builds on Australia's growing commitment to climate action and Indonesia's energy transition, including the recent visit of Australia's Ambassador for Climate Change Kristen Tilley to Indonesia.

It also complements the recent launch of KINETIK – the Australia-Indonesia Climate and Infrastructure Partnership, the Australia-Indonesia MoU on EV cooperation, and the MoU between Indonesian electricity giant PLN and Export Finance Australia to develop a US$200 million capital financing facility to support Indonesia’s energy transition.
