TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia was willing to cooperate with Indonesia, including sending joint peacekeeping forces to Gaza, Palestine, if mandated by the United Nations (UN).

“Regarding the humanitarian situation in Palestine, I’d like to reiterate Malaysia's willingness to cooperate, including in deploying peacekeeping troops with Indonesia, if mandated by the UN,” Anwar said on his Instagram accessed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday, July 1.

He conveyed his willingness in a phone conversation with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.

Anwar said he had a three-minute talk with Prabowo and expressed his gratitude for the smooth operation the Indonesian president-elect had recently undergone. He also prayed for Prabowo’s speedy recovery to carry out the responsibilities entrusted to him.

Anwar said he had exchanged views on current issues, particularly Prabowo's role in representing Indonesia on the international stage and efforts to promote regional and global vision, collaboration, and peace.

“I also welcomed the idea of cooperation in the Malaysia-Indonesia international peacekeeping mission and the possibility of expanding this collaboration to the ASEAN regional level,” he added.

At the end of the conversation, Anwar Ibrahim pinned hopes that the Indonesian elections, which would culminate in the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) on November 27, 2024, and the inauguration of Prabowo as the Indonesian President on October 20, 2024, would go well and smoothly.
