TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna Laoly confirmed that Immigration data has been moved to the Amazon Web Service (AWS) after the National Data Center (PDN) was disrupted by a ransomware cyberattack.

“Yes, we were forced to migrate to AWS. So while we're waiting for the PDN to be restored, what are our contingency solutions? We're using Amazon first,” Yasonna said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Monday afternoon, June 25.

However, he did not elaborate on how long the data migration would last. “Let's just wait for the PDN [to return to normal],” he said.

Disruptions to the PDN have impacted several public services since Thursday, June 20, including immigration services.

In a statement at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Minister of Communications and Information (Kominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi said that the disruption had actually occurred at the Temporary National Data Center (PDNS) 2 in Surabaya, which was now beginning to recover gradually.

Budi Arie said the government was making efforts to recover it, dismissing concerns about the breach of public data.

“We are doing our best. The BSSN’s forensic team is still evaluating it,” Budi Arie said.

Immigration Director-General Silmy Karim stressed that immigration services had been gradually recovered since Saturday, June 22. The data had been transferred within 12 hours after the technical problems at the Kominfo PDN were identified.
