TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A country is categorized as developed if it meets certain criteria such as high per capita income, stable economic conditions, quality education, advanced infrastructure, and high quality of life. Although American and European countries generally dominate the list of developed countries, the Asian region also has many developed countries of its own. The following is a list of developed Asian countries quoted from various sources.

1. Singapore

With an area of 734.3 square km, Singapore is a developed country with a high standard of living based on its Human Development Index (HDI). Singapore's HDI has the highest value compared to other developed Asian countries with 0.925. Singapore is famous for its excellent health facilities, security, public transportation, and quality education Singapore's per capita income is also one of the highest in the world, namely US$82,762 and a GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of US$452,686 billion.

2. Japan

Japan’s per capita income is US$38,216 from the automotive, culture, anime, technology, and industrial sectors. Japan has a GDP of US$4,843 billion and HDI value of 0.903. Japan is also known for its excellent quality of education and highly valued human resources.

3. Hong Kong

Hong Kong is one of the world's economic centers with a per capita income of US$56,428 and a GDP of US$412,300 billion. Hong Kong also has an HDI value of 0.910, ranked fourth in the world. Hong Kong is known as a modern country, a metropolis, and a symbol of high social status.

4. South Korea

This country is famous for its highly advanced industrial and technological sectors. The South Korean entertainment industry is in great demand by almost all countries, making it one of the largest contributors to South Korea's state revenue. South Korea has a per capita income of US$36,601 and a GDP of US$1,854 trillion. South Korea has an HDI of 0.901 which proves that the human development index in South Korea is very good.

5. Israel

Israel is one of the countries with the highest per capita income, namely US$35,658, and a GDP of US$286,840 billion. The country's main revenue comes from medicines, software, military technology, chemicals, and diamond exports. Additionally, the tourism sector is also an important industry for this country. The human development index value in Israel is also very high, namely 0.899.

6. Saudi Arabia

This country with the capital Riyadh has a high per capita income of US$53,149 and a GDP of US$1,668 trillion. Saudi Arabia’s main revenue comes from its oil resources and natural reserves. Saudi Arabia has an HDI of 0.847.

7. United Arab Emirates

The UAE's main source of revenue is the natural gas and oil sectors. It is one of the world’s biggest oil-producing countries. The country's per capita income is US$65,037 and GDP amounts to US$643,846 billion. The country whose capital is Abu Dhabi has a human development index (HDI) of 0.840.

8. Brunei Darussalam

Brunei Darussalam ranked two as a developed country in Southeast Asia after Singapore. This country with a Sultanate system has a high per capita income of US$50,440 thanks to its petroleum and natural gas sector and a GDP of US$21,907 billion. Brunei is also known as a country that has no foreign debt. Brunei has an HDI value of 0.865.

9. Qatar

The country whose capital is Doha has an area of 11,586 square km. Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world and has a very high per capita income of US$145,894 and a GDP of US$298.4 billion. Qatar’s main industries are oil and gas reserves. The human development index (HDI) in Qatar has a value of 0.856.

10. Taiwan

Taiwan, whose capital is Taipei, with an area of 36,193 square km is famous for its ever-growing electronics, manufacturing, machinery, and steel industries. Taiwan has an HDI value of 0.882.

11. Macau

Just like Hong Kong and Taiwan, Macau is one of the countries with the highest per capita income in the world, namely US$32,482 and a GDP of US$24.04 billion. The tourism, gambling, and export sectors are the country's main industries. Macau has a human development index value of 0.905.

12. Bahrain

Bahrain is a small country with a small population and significant economic growth, making it one of Asia’s most developed countries. This country's main income is exports originating from oil production and processing.

Bahrain has a per capita income of US$60,720 and a GDP of US$44.38 billion. Bahrain has a high human development index value of 0.824.

13. Kuwait

Located in the Arabian Peninsula with an area of 17,820 square km in total, Kuwait is rich in petroleum. Additionally, steel manufacturing also contributes to Kuwait’s high per capita income, namely US$41,080 and GDP of US$175.36 billion. Kuwait's human development index is 0.816.
