TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Police will extradite Thailand’s most wanted fugitive Chaowalit Thongduang, known by the moniker “Pang Na Node”, this afternoon, June 4, 2024, from Soekarno-Hatta Airport in Tangerang.

Head of the National Police's International Relations Division, Inspector General Krishna Murti, said Chaowalit would depart at 03:00 p.m. local time. "This afternoon, Thailand's most wanted fugitive will be deported from Soekarno-Hatta Airport," said Krishna.

Based on Tempo's monitoring, Chaowalit was directed by police officers to a prisoner transport car at the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit building at 11:35 a.m. local time. Escorted by police officers, Chaowalit was seen wearing an orange shirt with both hands handcuffed.

He was transported for further processing of his extradition back to his home country, Thailand. Police members will escort Chaowalit during the process. "Ten members of the National Police will escort Thailand's most wanted fugitive," he said.

The National Police arrested Chaowalit Thongduang on Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Apartemen Kembar in Bali. Head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, Commissioner General Wahyu Widada, said that Chaowalit was wanted on multiple criminal charges by the Thai authorities.

Wahyu explained that the arrest was made based on a red notice control from the Royal Thai Police issued on February 16 in the name of Chaowalit Thongduang alias Pang Na-Node.

Chaowalit had previously been arrested in Thailand but managed to escape and flee to Indonesia for over seven months. Krishna said Chaowalit was putting pressure on law enforcement officials in Thailand.

"The suspect they (Thai police) are facing is quite serious, a first-class gangster. He escaped from prison and has been in Indonesia for seven months. He once killed a police officer and shot a member of the judiciary," said Krishna at a press conference on Sunday, June 2, 2024.
