TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo and leaders of countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum visited the Ngurah Rai Grand Forest Park (Tahura), Bali, Monday (20/5).

Tahura is a mangrove forest rehabilitation and conservation area that implements the principles of Balinese teachings, Tri Hita Karana, which prioritizes a balanced relationship between God, humans and nature.

As reported from kemlu.go.id, different from the G20 Summit in 2022, the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the leaders of the countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum did not plant mangroves directly, but instead gave tree seedlings to children as a symbol of the next generation who will continue environmental conservation efforts.

"The activity of handing over seeds and planting trees in Tahura is a reflection of our collective determination to advance cooperation and real action for global development," said President Joko Widodo.

The Head of State invited the delegation to enter the Tahura area which is located along the estuary which is supported by solar power generation electricity technology.

The facility is equipped with a solar panel area which functions as a basis for generating electricity in various mangrove conservation areas.

The existence of solar panels in Tahura Ngurah Rai was adopted from the Cirata solar panel project, which is a joint project between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates, launched in West Java Province some time ago.

The 10th World Water Forum carries the theme "Water for Shared Prosperity" which reflects the concrete manifestation of Indonesia's and the world's commitment to handling climate change, through concrete actions for green economic development and sustainable environmental conservation.

The mangrove plants that spread widely in the Tahura Ngurah Rai area are considered very important for supporting the ecosystem and human welfare, filtering and regulating the fresh water cycle and being a solution to facing the threat of climate change and extinction of biodiversity.

President Joko Widodo emphasized the enormous potential of mangrove forests which are able to absorb and store 4-5 times more carbon than ordinary forests, and can support increased survival of coastal communities.

The arrangement of the Tahura Bali Mangrove Forest area was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo in early February 2023, at the same time as the inauguration of the Danu Kerthi Tamblang Dam in Buleleng Regency.

During the visit, the President of the Republic of Indonesia and the leaders of the countries participating in the 10th World Water Forum also saw and received an explanation of the Cirata Solar Panel project, the largest floating solar power plant in Southeast Asia, a collaboration between Indonesia and the United Arab Emirates (PEA).
